Out on the Horizon
Let's start here with the short timeframe, first: I didn't fully understand how GoFundMe worked, so I was surprised when I got a deposit of $143.83 from them a week or so back. I thought one had to reach their full funding goal before there was a payout, but I've since been told, no, that's Kickstarter, which would not have been appropriate for the Holiday Gift idea over there on the left of this page. That wasn't quite enough to order the Fesley, and I was fighting the state unemployment office and my former employer regarding vacation pay, and whether I would qualify for that measly $166/week in UI bennies. So, I took that cash, bought the Infinite Grid Spark GO amp (demo'd here), and hoped to get the rest of the funding in time to make someone's 4Q 2024 a little brighter, as planned.
Funding stalled out at $150, and hasn't moved, since. So, I can still give the new amp, but barring a last-minute donation of ~$200, I plan to instead supply that used Epiphone SG that I fixed up and put new tuners on earlier, this year. WITH hardshell case! Not inequitable, in my mind. The Fesley had only a gig bag.
I'd asked a former co-worker to put me in touch with someone at their church to arrange for them to select a deserving kid to get the guitar and amp, but that person has now ghosted me. Does anyone local to Dayton have a church? I just want a trusted air-gap between myself and whoever ends up with the guitar, as I don't want anyone to think I'm trying to groom kids, or any of that.
In other news, I have registered a domain again, kids. This will be in connection with my latest soon-to-be heartbreaking failed business idea for my retirement. 🤔 You will be alerted when it goes live if you keep your eyes here. HERE ➡️👀
I will say that it has to do with a license for software that I have already been granted, and training to go along with it, courtesy of my local library. I feel like I did in 1996. Mosaic 0.9a was released, and that very night, I built my first web page using HTML using the vi editor on our new HP-UX server. Pleased as punch I was, and soon had an educational license for Adobe Photoshop (I worked at a university), and within 18 months, tripled my income. I'm not sure the Old Dog can learn the One Weird Trick this go-round, but it will not be for lack of trying.
How's your weird?
